Senior Payroll and Benefits Specialist
 
Our client is searching for a Senior Payroll and Benefits Specialist to join their team. This role will be responsible for both payroll and benefits administration throughout the company. A successful will be an energetic self-starter with a strong work ethic. This role reports directly to the Human Resources Manager.
 
Your success will be defined by your ability to:
  • Oversee and manage all payroll processing and transactions for company employees
  • Analyze issues and develop best practices to improve efficiency of payroll processes
  • Ensure that payroll is processes timely and accurately
  • Ensure confidentiality of employee personal information, payroll records, and payroll processes and systems
  • Plan, oversee and perform all payroll year-end processes, including T4’s, to ensure seamless transition into the next payroll year
  • Oversee and maintain accurate employee payroll records
  • Maintain payroll software programs and licensing
  • Address and respond to all payroll, benefit and investment related inquiries and requests from employees in a timely manner
  • Analyze payroll problems and provide appropriate solutions
  • Be the Head Administrator of the Collective Agreements for unionized employees, and follow Employment Standards legislation for non-union staff
  • Assist in audit operations and implement recommendations for payroll services
  • Prepare and submit WCB annual payroll returns as well as estimates
  • Enroll and administer eligible employees in company benefit and retirement plans, terminating plan members as required
  • Other duties as required
Your strengths include:
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in full cycle payroll processing
  • Ability to perform all necessary payroll calculations, deductions, wage garnishments, source or government deduction payments, child maintenance enforcement garnishments and any legal required filings
  • Experience administering payroll in a salary, hourly and unionized environment is preferred
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner and/or Payroll Leadership Professional (National Payroll Institute) designation is an asset
  • In-depth understanding of accounting practices
  • Knowledge of employee/labour relations, onboarding, and performance management
  • Knowledge of employee related legislation with the ability to interpret and apply provincial and federal legislation as it relates to payroll
  • Experience in disability claims management is an asset
  • Excellent analytical skills with proven strategic planning skills and the ability to be hands-on when required
  • Excellence in achieving multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a timely fashion
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills, using a variety of software applications and online tools
