Estimating Manager Our client in Calgary is searching for an
Estimating Manager to join their team. A successful candidate will be the point of expertise for all department’s knowledge such as proposal development, bid preparation, regulatory compliance, client relations, and provide continuous improvement. This role will report to the VP Operations.
Your success will be defined by your ability to: - Lead the estimating team in reviewing client requests and producing comprehensive proposals.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high-quality work.
- Take an active role in bid preparation, ensuring the quality and accuracy of each proposal.
- Assist in setting initial project budgets based on accurate estimates, contributing to the financial planning process while maintaining a focus on cost efficiency.
- Manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Work closely with operations, project controls, and HSEQ teams to establish benchmarks, gather financial information, and ensure effective communication throughout the estimation process.
- Ensure that each proposal aligns with local codes and regulations, working with internal subject matter experts to address compliance requirements.
- Continuous conversations with our core clients to ensure their needs are being met.
- Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time to project sites within Canada to attend site visits and pre-bid meetings with clients.
Your strengths include: - 10+ years’ construction experience and 5 years in estimating roles
- P.Eng or P.Tech designations and/or previous experience in multi-family residential construction considered an asset. Client will consider previous trades experience as an asset.
- Experience with ground-up construction.
- Proficiency in Excel for estimating projects, with the ability to scale off drawings and utilize unit rates for non-typical scopes, as well as ability to work in Microsoft Project.
- Strong leadership qualities and effective communication skills
- Quick learner who is comfortable using hard numbers and a developed feel to ensure each proposal is comprehensive yet competitive.
