Assistant Controller
 
Our client is searching for an Assistant Controller to join their team. This role will be responsible for maintaining the financial integrity and driving the success of the business. A successful candidate will play a vital role in managing the financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance and efficiency in all accounting processes. This role reports directly to the Controller.
 
Your success will be defined by your ability to:
  • Organize and assess financial statements, reports, and forecasts for management review, ensuring clarity and accuracy
  • Oversee month and year end closing processes, reconciling accounts and resolving discrepancies as needed
  • Evaluate accounting issues and prepare non-recurring journal entries
  • Gather and explore data for key performance indicators and risk metrics, providing valuable insights
  • Collaborate on budget preparation, forecasting, risk assessment, compliance reports, as well as fulfilling ad hoc reporting needs
  • Create Financial Discussion and Analysis reporting for presentation to Senior Management and the Board
  • Establish and document accounting controls through the development of policies and procedures, ensuring transparency and efficiency
  • Uphold compliance with accounting standards and regulations, safeguarding integrity and reliability
  • Influence and support various special projects as needed, leveraging expertise and teamwork to achieve targets
Your strengths include:
  • Degree or Diploma in Accounting, or equivalent experience of 5 years in progressive accounting roles.
  • CPA Designation is strongly preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in a the insurance industry
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically with Excel, databases and accounting software
  • Sage experience is considered an asset
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization skills, accuracy, and ability to prioritize tasks
