Specialist, US Tax Our client is in search of an experienced
Specialist, US Tax to join their team in Calgary. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading and advising on US tax matters, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, and optimizing tax strategies to support business objectives. This role requires a deep understanding of US tax laws, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across various departments. This role offers flexibility of a hybrid or remote work schedule.
Your success will be defined by your ability to: - Manage, including preparation and review, the filing of U.S. federal, applicable state, and local tax returns, including cross border tax compliance filings
- Prepare and review of the U.S. tax provisions and analysis under IFRS for financial reporting purposes.
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and optimize tax positions
- Provide U.S. tax advice and support with business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings and domestic or cross-border financing
- Monitor and analyze changes in tax legislation
- Manage and coordinate tax audits and inquiries by federal, state, and local tax authorities
- Prepare and present responses to tax notices and audit findings
- Work closely with the Finance, Legal, and Business Development teams to provide tax insights and support on various projects and initiatives
- Assist is U.S. tax forecasting and modeling of cash tax horizon
- Assist in the development and implementation of internal tax policies and procedures
- Provide training and guidance to junior tax staff and other departments
Your strengths include: - A bachelor’s degree in accounting ad CPA designation is strongly preferred
- Master’s degree in US tax or equivalent is preferred
- 7+ years of relevant tax experience, preferably in a U.S. corporate tax environment or public accounting firm
- Extensive experience with U.S. federal, state, and local tax compliance and reporting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office applications
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
