RPI Executive Search has partnered with an early-stage, fast-growing environmental management company in their search for a
US-based Business Development Representative. Reporting to the Director of Business Development, the BD Representative will be responsible for continuing our client’s growth in the US market with tier 1 clients primarily in the energy and agriculture sectors. The BD Representative will proactively identify and grow business, develop and implement strategic plans aligned with broader business goals, and identify, forecast, develop, and report progress on market opportunities by maintaining accurate and timely sales records. This position is home-based and can be based anywhere in the United States, with regular travel within the United States and limited travel to Canada.
Key Responsibilities The following is a high-level overview of the Business Development Representative’s responsibilities and is not intended to be all-inclusive.
- Execute the client’s business development / sales efforts in the United States, with a particular focus on key geo-markets.
- Proactively seek net new sales opportunities, employing solution-selling techniques and solid sales strategies to close new business.
- Stay knowledgeable on activity within the target sectors – ie., oil and gas, fuel suppliers or distributors, and agriculture.
- Forge long-term relationships with key decision-makers and ensure client satisfaction through regular meetings, communication, and follow-up.
- Understand the client needs, provide solutions that align with their goals, and effectively present the business case for change and adoption of our client’s scientific and technical solutions.
- Collaborate with functional teams including Business Development, Marketing, Customer Experience, Operations, as well as the CEO and technical sales support personnel in setting and driving the company’s vision for sales infrastructure, sales strategy, and product messaging for US-based clients.
- Maintain knowledge of our client’s technical capabilities.
- Gather detailed client feedback about our client’s installations, technology, data, and software services, reputation, and competitive activity reporting issues immediately to relevant leadership.
- Create and present accurate and professional proposals and presentation collateral.
- Draft and negotiate contracts and other client agreements that are approved by management.
- Travel as required to meet with clients across the United States, with limited travel to Canada.
- Contribute to other business development duties as they arise in collaboration with the Director of Business Development.
Candidate Experience While no individual will embody every quality, the successful candidate will bring many of the following professional qualifications and personal competencies: Professional Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree is required; studies in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field are an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience selling in relevant sectors is required.
- Proven experience in a client-facing role with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and clients simultaneously.
- Sales experience and a track record of achieving targets ($1M+ annually) is highly desirable.
- Experience working in a tech-driven environment with some background in process improvement and optimization.
- Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
