It's exactly what it sounds like: promoting and packaging yourself as a viable product that serves to create an impression about who you are and, by extension, your accomplishments, services, and offerings. Crafted correctly, your personal brand will illicit as well as impart an emotional connection in the minds of recruiters that will differentiate you from other job applicants.

The concept of personal branding was originally formulated by Tom Peters in 1997. However, it is only in recent years that its application has proven effective for job seekers. Dan Schawbel, a guru within this discipline, states that “personal branding, by definition, is the process of marketing ourselves” (source).
